Assistance to Nationals
Agriculture including forestry and fishing contributes to about 10% (approximate) and about 25% of land is used for agricultural purpose. Primary agricultural products include coconuts, bananas, taro, yams, coffee and cocoa. Agricultural export products are fish, coconut oil and cream, copra, taro and beer, which are primarily exported to New Zealand, Australia, US and Indonesia.
Every country regards tourism as big source of government revenue, employment, etc. Samoa as a pacific country with strong cultural heritage and vast natural locations, envisions to further develop their tourism sector. Likewise, the Philippines also puts great emphasis in tourism, in fact tourism plays an important role in the Philippine economy.
Samoa is a relatively raw market in terms of IT-BPO industry, and with such condition a lot of gap can be filled up by different opportunities for investment. The Consulate shall administer possible business ventures in the said industry in Samoa. The Philippines on the other hand regards the information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) sector as one of the biggest and most developed in the country. Consequently, the Filipino people has emerged as the preferred employees of many entrepreneurs.
With its market primarily being Pacific, it is of great benefit should Samoa trade be diversified and opened to other markets like the Philippines and the ASEAN, two possibilities which the Consulate intends to explore.
The government of Samoa is very keen on academic advancement and educational opportunities for its nationals locally and international. The Consulate in turn is open to helping Samoan nationals pursue their academic aspirations in the Philippines through coordination with different academic stakeholders in the country. It may help facilitate looking for scholarships and grants provided by Philippine institutions
